Our Story

If you are wanting a break from the major chains and looking for a breakfast “just like mom used to make”, make Doug’s Motor City your breakfast destination. To avoid a wait on weekends visit before 8am or after 11. Doug’s Motor City is open at 5am 7 days a week and breakfast is served until 2.

For lunch we serve burgers, hot wings, chicken tenders and other selections to satisfy your hunger. And, except on Sundays, the bar IS OPEN at 6 am. Check our calendar often for night time entertainment; Doug’s features such local favorites as Brennan Graves (every other Wednesday 6-9 pm), Red Jane, BandZazzy, and other local and regional favorites. Tuesday is Classic Country Music night featuring $1.00 domestic longnecks from 3-7pm. December 12th will begin Ladies Night on Thursdays with food and drink specials with just the ladies in mind.

What began as a search for a part-time bartender position slowly and methodically developed into one of Bowling Green’s breakfast landmarks. Yes, Doug’s Motor City is a bar that serves breakfast! In fact, we are proud to say that we are Bowling Green’s only bar that serves a bodacious breakfast!

When Doug Doscher retired from FedEx in 2010, he almost immediately began looking for work as a part-time bartender. Having worked as a volunteer bartender at various American Legions and VFW posts around the country, this seemed the most natural way for him to busy himself. Searching as far away as Nashville, the opportunity he was looking for just never presented itself so Doug put his search on hold.

In May of 2011, Doug learned that Motor City Bar & Grill was for sale. After a brief visit, he determined he was interested and began looking into the history of Motor City. After inquiring of many of his friends, a common thread appeared – this Bar served an awesome breakfast! In June of 2011, the purchase of what was to become Doug’s Motor City was completed.

Fast forwarding to today, Doug’s Motor City is proud to serve a home cooked style breakfast at a very reasonable price. Cooks with a history of “country cooking’”, experienced (and lightning fast!) servers, and customer care oriented wait staff take pleasure in serving hundreds of breakfast platters every day. Come see us!
